Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Short, honest answers to what people ask most — how to get online without the app, how a Tagnect venue is set up, and what happens to your data.

Getting connected

I just arrived and don't have the app yet. How do I get online?

Hold your phone near a Tagnect tag (or scan it): your phone opens a page that sends you to your app store to install the Tagnect app. Once installed, the app connects you to the Wi‑Fi in seconds — no forms, no password to type.

No mobile signal to download it? The venue offers a dedicated open network named something like Tagnect_app_download. Connect to it and a page opens automatically — this network is walled off, so it only lets you reach the app stores to download the Tagnect app. Nothing else. After you install the app and tap the tag, it moves you onto the venue's main Wi‑Fi.

Do I have to create an account or fill out a form?

No. Tagnect doesn't ask you to fill sign‑up forms or hand over personal data just to get online. You tap the tag and you're connected.

The Wi‑Fi password I copied earlier stopped working. Why?

That's by design. The network password changes continuously in the background. A copied credential has a limited lifetime: after its time block and grace period expire, it can no longer be used for a new connection — so a password shared on paper or in a screenshot doesn't stay useful forever.

For venues & IT

How is a Tagnect venue set up? (the three‑network design)

A Tagnect site typically runs three separate, isolated networks on the same router:

1. A fixed network (with a password) — for the venue's own equipment: printers, TVs, payment terminals and other headless devices that just need a stable connection.

2. The Tagnect network (rotating per‑tag passwords) — the network your guests use. Passwords rotate continuously and are delivered by the app after a tap, so there's nothing to type and a copied credential expires.

3. An open but limited onboarding network (something like: Tagnect_app_download) — a captive network for newcomers who don't have the app and have no mobile signal. It is walled off to reach only the app stores, purely so a visitor can install the app. It is isolated from the other two networks and from your local devices.

Does Tagnect work on the hardware I already have?

Tagnect runs on top of your existing network gear. On supported managed controllers it integrates with their per‑device controls; on OpenWrt routers it drives the access point directly. You don't replace your infrastructure to adopt it.

Is the open onboarding network a security risk?

The Tagnect_app_download network is deliberately restricted: it is isolated from your fixed devices and from the Tagnect guest network, and traffic is walled off to only the app stores. A device on it can't reach your local systems — its single purpose is letting a newcomer install the app, after which they move to the main Wi‑Fi.
